Ukraine’s Biggest Problem Isn’t Trump- It’s European Elites

America’s new National Security Strategy sent shockwaves through the traditional Western security establishment this month. Casting Europe as a continent in decline, it criticized European elites mostly on cultural and political grounds. This language is completely inappropriate and inadequate.

What the document should have said is that the Europeans are terrible allies, a squabbling, feckless mass of self-serving freeloaders. Faced with an existential threat by Russia and Vladimir Putin, the European Union has failed to unite, responded with brave words but timid action and essentially demands the United States carry the burden.
