The Free Market Playbook to Health Care

For decades, Washington has argued about health care without fixing the one problem Pennsylvanians feel every year: it’s simply too expensive. Premiums keep climbing, and deductibles are higher than ever. Sadly, too many families are forced to think twice before seeing a doctor.

That’s why we at Americans for Prosperity-PA believe that this current health care discussion is a moment Republicans shouldn’t waste.

The playbook? President Donald Trump’s clear message in his address on December 17th: if you want to win on health care, you focus on patients, not insurance companies. Instead of sending more taxpayer dollars through the halls of Congress and straight to insurers, we should be putting patients in the driver’s seat of their own care.

Here in Pennsylvania, we’ve seen what the current system delivers. Premiums continue to rise, and rural communities struggle to access coverage. That’s not affordable care. It’s simply not sustainable.

At Americans for Prosperity-PA, our taxpayer activists support reforms that give Pennsylvanians real control, like expanding Health Savings Accounts and allowing families to use their own money to choose the care that works best for them. When patients control the dollars, costs come down, competition increases, and the quality of care improves. Pennsylvanians are ready for that change. Recent polling shows voters overwhelmingly want lower health care costs, not more bureaucracy. They want options, transparency, and a system that works for working families, seniors, and small business owners alike.

Now that the Biden-era tax credits have expired and Congress is once again debating health care, lawmakers face a clear choice. They can double down on a system that props up insurers and drives costs higher, or they can offer a better way forward that empowers patients.

In a state like ours, where an aging population and rising costs of living already strain household budgets, this debate matters. Health care shouldn’t be a luxury—it should be something families can afford without fear or frustration.

That’s why Americans for Prosperity is calling on Pennsylvania’s members of Congress to do what’s right. Advance patient-centered reforms. Expand Health Savings Accounts. Increase competition. Stop sending more money into a system that delivers for insurance companies but fails patients.

It’s time for a Personal Option to care. Congressman Rob Bresnahan, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, and Congressman Ryan Mackenzie—three PA Republican members who forced a vote on retroactively extending Biden-era tax credits—must hear from you. Tell them you want health care reform that lowers costs and puts patients back in control.
