Pro-Abortion Executive Orders and Stopping FOCA
By Charlene Bashore, Esq., Legislative/Political Action Committee Director
(bashore@paprolife.org)
Sen. Barack Obama's victory on election day will bring tremendous challenges to all who seek to protect the lives of unborn children. Already, his transition team is studying the executive orders put in place by President Bush which prohibited funding new embryonic stem cell research and the Mexico City Policy which prohibits funding programs overseas which promote abortion. Unfortunately, these sweeping changes can be made solely within the prerogative of the new administration, without any input from Congress. (See http://lifenews.com/nat4559.html .)
FOCA, the "Freedom of Choice" bill, however, would require action from Congress. This, you may recall, was what candidate Barack Obama pledged to Planned Parenthood would be his foremost legislative priority. This bill would wipe away the legislative strides made by the Pennsylvania Legislature over the course of the past two decades. For more detailed information about this potentially devastating legislation and what you can do now to help prevent its passage, please visit our website (www.paprolife.org).
Despite the disappointing loss of the pro-life presidential ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin, more locally, within the State Capitol, our pro-life majorities in both the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and State Senate are essentially unchanged. In addition, our two pro-life statewide elected officials, Attorney General Tom Corbett and Auditor General Jack Wagner were both re-elected.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s Niece on Obama and Abortion
Martin Luther King Jr.'s niece says her uncle's dream remains unfulfilled because President-Elect Barack Obama is pro-abortion.
"President-Elect Obama has promised actions that will only increase the number of abortions," Dr. Alveda King told LifeNews.com. "The elections are over. The pro-life battle begins anew," Dr. King added. For more on this story, visit http://www.lifenews.com/nat4566.html .

Pro-Life Movement Could Face Major Challenges in 2009
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation Education Director Maria Vitale has written a column for LifeNews.com about the major challenges the pro-life movement may face in 2009. But there's also the hope that the movement will emerge from those challenges stronger than ever. Read more at http://www.lifenews.com/nat4544.html .

Let's Make the Next March for Life the Biggest Ever!
Please consider attending the 2009 March for Life on January 22, 2009 in Washington, D.C. Given pro-abortion gains in the White House and Congress, it's more important than ever to let Washington know about your dedication to ending legal abortion and protecting unborn children and their mothers. To learn more about the march, visit www.marchforlife.org. If you know of buses going to the March for Life from your area, please let us know the contact name and number by e-mailing lifelines@paprolife.org. And, if you're a post-abortive woman or man, the Silent No More Awareness Campaign would like you to help lead the march. You can register for the campaign at www.silentnomoreawareness.org.

On the Death of Catherine Baker Knoll
Catherine Baker Knoll, state Lieutenant Governor, two-term State Treasurer, and a long-time friend of the pro-life community, passed away on Wednesday, November 12. Throughout her lengthy public service to the Commonwealth, Catherine Baker Knoll held a consistent pro-life position. The Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation extends its deepest sympathy to her family and friends throughout the Commonwealth.
