VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity that only requires a few hours a month? Church Ambassadors (CAs) are individuals who serve as a connection between UFC and the church they attend in a number of ways. Currently, UFC has 16 CAs who help keep their church community updated on the latest UFC news, events and programs. They are an important part of our street team, spreading the mission and vision of our organization. Do you think you have what it takes to be a CA? For more information call 215-879-2485 for an informative packet on how you can help.
From the President
"So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hands Amalek prevailed. But Moses' hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword." Exodus 17: 10-13
I have always been a proud individual and for many years I believed being a man meant being able to stand alone in the midst of troubling times. God has been so patient with me as I struggled with trying to stand alone yet call on His name. The above scripture has been nagging at me for some time and I did not understand why until now.
First and foremost I need to admit that I need help. I need your prayers, encouragement and support. As many of you know I have traveled an interesting road to where God has placed me today. Like Joseph, I have been broken and started my journey from the bottom. My first job in corporate America was in the mailroom and God has seen fit to promote me to President of Urban Family Council. Non-profits are suffering because of the economics in America today. I spend quite a bit of time in prayer and reading. This is where the scripture comes in. The stone that Moses sat on I am leaning on. The stone is my "rock." The rock is the Word of God. I need a few Aarons and Hurs to come along side of me and hold up my hands. God has already given me the victory; however, even the toughest of soldiers grow weary without the proper support. The sword with which I am fighting is growing heavy and I need you to help me defeat the attack that the enemy has launched against the youth and families of America.
Please pray for God to release the resources needed for Urban Family Council to continue what I know God has called us to do. "Build Healthy Families" for His kingdom by reaching the next generation with His message of hope.
"I am about my Father's business today! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

A Summer with UFC
By Antonia Gale
Having the opportunity to intern with Urban Family Council this summer has been a great experience in two ways. One, I was able to apply what I have already learned in my first year at LaSalle University where I am majoring in Accounting. Working in a real-world situation gave me a better understanding of how accounting actually works, as opposed to just understanding textbook scenarios.
Two, I assisted as a Junior Counselor, this time for our Philadelphia-based HYPE (Helping Youth Prepare Effectively) Camp. (Last summer I was assigned to Harrisburg.) Helping young children and working in a family-like atmosphere was enjoyable. I was able to both guide our students with their academic lessons and be someone they could come and talk to about anything.
Thanks, UFC for allowing me the opportunity to help "build healthy families."

UPDATE
HYPE!
Another summer flew by for Urban Family Council's (UFC) staff as four more HYPE (Helping Youth Prepare Effectively) Camps came to an end. This summer, HYPE at Rowland School, Harrisburg; People for People, Inc. and the UFC facility, Philadelphia; and The Village Charter School, Chester reached approximately 175 students in 1st - 8th grades. Throughout the camps, students learned about their dreams and goals, careers, manhood/womanhood, abstinence, being person of character in their community and so much more. Visit our website for pictures of 2008 HYPE students.
Sizzling Summer Film Premiere a Success
Urban Family Council has been lucky enough to have a sneak peak at a great new film before it hits the big screen this fall. Fireproof, produced from the creators of Facing the Giants and Flywheel, premiered at Calvary Assembly in Wyncote, PA last Wednesday, August 6th, for teens and adults. The event was a great success. All the seats were full and viewers got lost in the heart wrenching story about a man's journey to save his marriage and how he found faith along the way. Special Thanks to Pastor Devin for his help, and Hatfield Quality Meats for donating their hot dog roller and hot dogs. Visit www.FireprooftheMovie.com
