Quote of the Week
"You want to make every pundit look bad? Then stand tall for what you believe. Don't be shy. You want to stun the establishment? Then become a mighty force for conservative principles, and tackle the task with confidence and cheer... This may be a time of testing. But it's not our swan song. Not by a long shot. Instead... this is our moment. This is the time to do what we do best—turn adversity into strength." ~ the late Tony Snow, former White House Press Secretary who died on July 12 at the age of 53 after battling cancer.

Casino-Building Progresses in Pittsburgh. Recent financial difficulties halted the construction of the Majestic Star casino in Pittsburgh; this week new investors announced their support for the project. The Gaming Control Board must approve the financing changes before construction continues.
Sen. Regola Found "Not Guilty." Sen. Bob Regola (R-Westmoreland) was charged over the circumstances that allowed a teenage neighbor to secure Regola's handgun and commit suicide. The court found that Regola did not store the gun in his home in an inappropriate manner. Regola is running for re-election this fall in Senate District 39.

McDonalds' Spokesman Calls Marriage Protection Supporters, "Haters." The American Family Association has launched a boycott of McDonald's restaurants because of the company's promotion of the gay agenda. AFA asked McDonald's to remain neutral in the culture war. McDonald's refused. In response to the boycott, McDonald's spokesman Bill Whitman suggested to the Washington Post that those who oppose same-sex "marriage" are motivated by hate, saying "...hatred has no place in our culture." You can learn more about the boycott at www.boycottmcdonalds.com.
Good News in the Case to Keep Homeschooling Legal in California. This week, a family-court judge dismissed the case that had caused a higher court to ban most homeschooling in the state. On Feb. 28, the 2nd Court of Appeals had ruled that only parents with teaching credentials could homeschool their children. That court will decide within the next month whether to drop its previous ruling. This new advancement is a strategic victory, which will hopefully stop the ban from being resurrected.
Black Pro-Life Advocates Protest at NAACP Convention. Pastors and other citizens expressed serious concerns about abortion, which affects a disproportional large number of African-American women; 4.8 times as many as white women. Planned Parenthood's racist and destructive agenda is funded with $300 million taxpayer dollars yearly. The NAACP should not turn a blind eye to this critical civil rights issue.
U.S. Senate Debates AIDS Relief Spending. $50 billion is proposed to re-authorize the President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), originally passed in 2003. Although extremely costly, the plan's strong point is that it continues to promote the ABC's of HIV/AIDS prevention: Abstinence, Be faithful, Condoms as a last resort. Still, a significant amount of money could go towards promoting coercive abortion and sterilization with a $2 billion donation to the Global Fund.

Marriage News
Massachusetts Legislators Votes to Export Gay "Marriages." Lawmakers voted to allow out-of-state homosexual couples to cross state lines and "marry" in MA. This law affects 48 other states, and is sure to ensue many court cases; states (like Pennsylvania) without a constitutional marriage amendment will be most vulnerable, as homosexuals get "married" in MA and return back to their home states demanding legal marriage privileges.
California Court Rules to Keep Marriage Amendment on Ballot in November. The California Supreme Court refused to hear a case brought by same-sex marriage advocates, who intended to prevent California citizens from voting on the California Marriage Protection Act in November.
2010 Census Bureau Respects Marriage. The 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) required federal agencies to recognize only one man-one woman marriages, so although CA and MA allow same-sex "marriage" within their states, the Census Bureau will continue to follow federal law. This is crucial, because many federal agencies rely on its statistics. Same-sex partners fall into the "unmarried partners" category.
