Tort Reform Obstructionist Arrested for Corruption

Activists within the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association were nowhere to be found as former State Representative Mike Veon was arrested on criminal charges.
Not long ago, Veon and Democratic House Leader Bill Deweese championed the trial lawyer activists' cause as they convinced Commonwealth Court to strike down the Fair Share Act-- Pennsylvania's only meaningful tort reform measure.
The arrest of the former Democratic House Whip may signal yet another major voter backlash against corruption within the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
Veon, who was voted out of office by voters enraged by his role in the infamous "General Assembly Payjacking Scandal," was among several recently arrested as a result of Attorney General Tom Corbett's "Bonusgate" investigations. It is conceivable voters, fed up with elected officials, could generate a major changeover as the entire Pennsylvania House of Representatives comes up for reelection this November.
PAPA is monitoring the situation closely and will keep members up to date as events unfold.

Former State Representative Mike Veon is pictured behind Governor Rendell. Veon and Democratic House Leader Bill Deweese convinced Commonwealth Court to strike down Pennsylvania's only meaningful tort reform measure, the Fair Share Act. A bipartisan effort of Republicans and Democrats to get the Fair Share Act was vetoed by Governor Rendell, despite his campaign promises. Veon and Deweese's victory, coupled with Rendell's veto was a major victory for trial lawyers, but a severe blow against patients, physicians, and the business community.
