Dear Lowman,

Philadelphia Crime Map
Philadelphia Police Department has prepared a Crime Map, searchable by address, in a 30 day window, of various crime categories. This enables residents and visitors to be aware of potential crime problem areas. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. KYW is reporting a rise in robberies in Center City.
KOZ and Paying off the Judge
A judge walks into the Courtroom Monday morning for the opening of a major trial between two successful businessmen and says "Before I start, I must disclose that on Friday afternoon plaintiff handed me $10,000 in cash in brown paper bag and last night the defendant brought me $5,000 in brown paper bag. In the interest of justice, there is only fair thing to do; I will return $5,000 to the plaintiff and decide this case on the merits."
So two business groups are arguing about KOZs and the politicians will take money from both sides, and, we hope will decide, wisely, on the merits.
There is an alternative. The Free Market; with a level playing field for all with the consumer as judge; no tax incentives for one group or another; no corporate welfare, no tax incentives for one politically favored group over another. Let the self interest of each businessman in seeking financial gain work to producing goods and providing services consumers and citizens want and need and are willing to pay for rather than to contest these economic matters in political arena.
Landlords fight KOZ
Judge Colins, Cozen and Specter
After years of public service, Commonwealth Court Judge Colins "retires" to a position at a law firm joining Supreme Court Justice Newman in her "retirement". Note his long ago ties to Senator Arlen Specter when Senator Specter was a Philadelphia DA. The network of judges and lawyers and elected officials is always of interest.
PA EITC
The PA Education Improvement Tax Credits are a way to fund alternatives to government schools. Dollars Follows Scholars and PA School Choice. One size does not fit all and government schools may not always be best venue for your child. School Competition and Parental Choice are keys not only to better quality.
