Dear Lowman,

Enjoy this issue, which focuses on Alternative Energy and Free Markets. View more posts on my blog.

US Farm Subsidies - PA Recipients

Environmental Working Group has a comprehensive database of US farm subsidies. (HT Club for Growth).

Recipients of Total Direct Payments from farms in Pennsylvania totaled $23,970,000 in 2007.

Here are Pennsylvania's top recipients in 2007.

Direct Payment subsidy recipients 1 to 20 of 10,907.

Individuals and families worked and saved to produce the revenues (taxes) to pay these recipients, Welfare Kings and Queens, their subsidies and welfare, which not only takes from productive taxpayers to give to others who did not earn the money, but it distorts the market and actually raises cost of food to individuals and families. From Commonwealth Foundation Policy Blog.

Set America Fee: Energy Security and Free Market
Set America Free is another good source of information about Energy Independence, Energy Security and Alternative Energy. This is a coalition of hawks and environmentalists, greens and evangelicals.

Set America Free presents clear policy statements with factual data. CATO presents another perspective which, although appearing to be contrary, in many respects is a different approach. CATO supports Free Market as do I and I think Plugged In Hybrids may be a purchase you will consider in next few years. It will completely change the dynamics of energy markets, shifting from oil and gas companies to electric producing utilities.

The picture of 100+ miles per gallon hybrid in DC is not futuristic. As this blog referencing two Wall Street Journal articles on May 2, 2008 demonstrates, this is close to becoming commercial reality.

Plug-In Hybrids: 2010 Here they Come

Two articles in the Wall Street Journal point to the near future change that will have a dramatic impact on all of us. One of the goals of The Conservative Reform Network blog is to be ahead of the curve on anticipated events that will affect us. Because these are ahead of the curve, the impact is not urgent and imminent. My goal is to highlight information that may help you in planning ahead for your own benefit as you think it is in your interest rather than have others, like government officials, do it for you.

The first article demonstrates the real world likelihood that we will see plugged-in hybrids by 2010. The second article starts off with whining, complaining and seeing the dark disaster instead of exciting promise. Despite the headline, this is an excellent article and points out the benefits of Smart Meters, which Pennsylvania General Assembly seems intent on forcing us to buy. One wonders why the General Assembly seems to think it necessary to coerce us to do what is good for us, economically. The General Assembly's 203 members seem to be experts on utilities and energy and know what is best for the rest of us. I wonder how many have actually read the bill?
