Allegheny Institute

Allegheny Institute Welcomes Dr. Myron Lieberman

by News Release

On May 20th the Allegheny Institute welcomes Dr. Myron Lieberman, the chairman of The Education Policy Institute. Dr. Lieberman's talk is entitled "The Educational Morass: Overcoming the Stalemate in American Education."

Dr. Lieberman is widely regarded as a leading authority on education policy and practice. He claims the nation's public school systems are not providing an effective education for our children and are unlikely to achieve significant improvement in the absence of external pressure, which is not in sight. He claims that education is a morass because several groups have veto power, but no interest group, or coalition of interest groups, controls all of the factors essential to affect either a major reform or a different system.

To this end, Dr. Lieberman will discuss the power struggle relationship between local school boards and teacher unions in contract negotiations that can lead to community disrupting strikes. He will also comment on the strategy and tactics of school choice and how the public school establishment has huge advantages in its opposition.

The lecture will take place at the Omni William Penn Hotel and begin at 7:00 PM. We ask that you make reservations at your earliest convenience.

Admission is free but tickets will be required to attend. Please call 412-440-0079 to reserve your seat.
