Myerstown, PA - The Constitutional Organization Of Lebanon (COOL), a conservative, non-partisan political action committee registered with the Pennsylvania Department of State, has announced that Pennsylvania state Senator Mike Folmer (R-48) will be kicking off the Spring 2008 session of the Institute On The Constitution (IOTC).
"The IOTC is, in my opinion, one of the best and most comprehensive courses to re-introduce ordinary citizens to the US Constitution and our American heritage," Folmer said. "I'm really excited about the opportunity to be a part of the first class this year."
Folmer, who is the Immediate Past Chairman of COOL, said he completed the course in late 2005, shortly before he decided to seek the Republican nomination for state Senate from the 48th District.
"It was very enlightening and informative, and I don't think anyone can complete this course without feeling they have been completely absorbed into the thinking of our Founding Fathers," he said.
According to Louis Petolicchio, current Chairman of COOL, the IOTC is an intensive, nine-week study that reviews the religious, philosophical and political beliefs that led to American Independence and the creation of the US Constitution.
"The course traces back those principles and ideals which influenced the thinking and belief systems of Washington, Madison, and Hamilton, and allows participants to get a broader feel for why these men felt so convicted about the nature of liberty," he said.
"At a time when the United States Supreme Court is hearing debates over whether the 2nd Amendment includes the individual right to bear arms, it is all that much more critical for American citizens to understand what their rights are and how our Founder's tried to protect those rights," Petolicchio said.
Course classes are presented in a video-open discussion format, and include topics such as A Biblical View of History, Law & Government and The Philosophical Worldview of the Founding Fathers as well in-depth reviews of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The Spring 2008 session of the IOTC will begin on March 25 and run every consecutive Tuesday (except for April 22) through May 27. Each class will begin at 7:00 PM and is scheduled to run two hours. The Spring 2008 session will be hosted at the Open Door Baptist Church at 875 Academy Drive in Lebanon.
The cost of the IOTC is $15 per person or $25 per household and includes all necessary study material. For more information, COOL may be contacted at 717-228-7524.
