A Word from the President
We Are Moving to West Philadelphia.
by Christopher A. Pender, Sr.

"I am not here by chance, but by God's choosing to fulfill His special purpose for this generation." -- Roy Lessin

Urban Family Council will leave its office in Cheltenham and move to a larger facility at 49th and Parkside Ave., in West Philadelphia on February 28, 2008. We plan to be back in business, by Monday, March 3rd. The move will be short, traveling only about ten miles, but the new urban environment will offer UFC the opportunity to work closer to communities we serve.

As our organization grows, the need for a bigger office is apparent. UFC is one of the few agencies that delivers its services to schools, businesses, and churches in the Philadelphia area. Our Building Healthy Families Program offers relationship, leadership and parent education, as well as other specialized services to youth in grades K-12, parents, and college age adults.

Moving to West Philly legitimizes us as an urban organization, and provides the opportunity for deeper penetration and impact. We will have a place where kids can come after school, which is the next step in helping youth. Our services are free to the local community including parenting and fatherhood workshops.

The new 6,000 square ft. facility is located on the fourth floor of a five story office building and has been renovated to accommodate our growing staff with ample office space, multipurpose meeting facilities, a training room, and a game room.

Our mission - to build healthy families by providing education about, and advocating for, life, marriage, and family - is the impetus for all we do. It is time that West Philadelphia and other surrounding communities get to know UFC on a more intimate level. Friday, April 4, 2008 will be the official open house for our supporters to come take a tour of the new office. For more information about the open house event, please call 215-663-9494.

Now This Is Renewed Virginity!
by Tad Mahan, Director of Development

I recently had breakfast with an old friend who reported that his relationship with another old friend has progressed to the point where they are actually discussing marriage. They have been single for years, both graduates of difficult marriages, and have maintained their sexual integrity.

As committed Christians in a church that takes marriage seriously, they understand the need to thoroughly discuss the many issues they face as a couple. These include their children, all with their own feelings about the relationship, and their extended families with different personalities and views of their union. They also have different commitments to the church and community, and homes that are very different.

But among the really important matters they agree on is that they will hold to the biblical standard of sexual purity until the day of their marriage. They do so with the joy of innocence and being faithful and it is wonderful to see.

Making a Difference!
by Carla Wertz, Intern, Mass Communications, Bloomsburg University

Working with Urban Family Council, I realized just how important education about life, marriage, and family is to the youth of this generation. The 2006 Department of Health Abortion Statistics show an increase of 5.2% from 2005.That is 1,822 more abortions in the past year. Urban Family Council introduces a healthy lifestyle to students, while teaching them the importance of being a good role model to family and peers. The future is bright as Urban Family Council continues to reach out to more and more youth and families each year. Our message is being diffused slowly but surely, and we are in fact making a difference.
