A Word from the President
The Time is Right

"I am not here by chance, but by God's choosing to fulfill His special purpose for this generation."
-- Roy Lessin

We have set the date for our move into the City of Brotherly Love. March 1, 2008 is going to come around quickly and we are preparing for it with prayer and hard work. As well, our annual Spring Fundraising Banquet is set for Thursday, March 27 at Presidential Caterers in East Norriton, PA (just off Route 202 close to the Plymouth Meeting Mall). (Look for more information about the banquet in the coming weeks.)

Two major events so close together could make a person panic. But we are trusting in God and following as He leads. No need to panic or fear, as He is able to make all things happen at the right time and for His glory.

On behalf of the Board and Staff of Urban Family Council, I thank you for your support of this ministry in 2007 and wish you a very Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Christopher A. Pender, Sr.
The Power of Teens
Challenge, Growth, and Change
by Kathy Kinzer, Urban Family Council Educator

It's amazing to experience the power one person can have over another. You know the feeling that's left when that one person has left a mark on your life, that has changed the way you view things, the way you go about effecting change, the way you go about being you. Well, this experience I speak of is something I've experienced through two groups of students I had the privilege to mentor last school year. I went into the classroom to challenge them, yet I was the one being challenged; I came to "teach them," some principles of life, yet I was taught what it means to live in their reality.

What lesson did I learn through these young women? That although I may not know what it's like to have grown up in the inner city, I do know how to care for people. I may not have answers to give, but I have a heart and ears to listen with. I believe this proved to be invaluable to the young women I was working with. I appreciated their strength and will to live, and I believe they appreciated my care for them. Only through openness and a heart to build relationships with young people, could I share this story of challenge, growth and change.

Parent Truancy Officer Program

Opens Doors to Ministry
by Allen Kraus, Truancy Intervention Coordinator Assistant

It's been a great blessing working with the Parent Truancy Officer (PTO) program. I happen to think that the doors of ministry that have been opened to us through the PTO program is nothing short of God's good grace. Just this past week, a parent called the office in response to a visit she received from a PTO. She came to the office to talk further. She shared some of the troubles she has been going through and we shared some words of encouragement. Before she left, we asked if we could pray with her. As we prayed, we could tell that she was touched by our genuine concern and love by the tears that streamed down her face. Likewise, we PTO program administrators were blessed to have this opportunity to minister to a hurting family thereby living out Urban Family Council's mission to build healthy families by providing education about, and advocating for, life, marriage and family.
