Quote of the Week
"Give up money, give up fame, give up science, give the earth itself and all it contains rather than do an immoral act. And never suppose that in any possible situation, or under any circumstances, it is best for you to do a dishonorable thing, however slightly so it may appear to you..."
~ Thomas Jefferson

Pennsylvania News
Focus on the Family and Pennsylvania Family Institute Ask Senator to Return to Pro-Life Roots. Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., has wandered from the pro-life fold, and an ad in newspapers across Pennsylvania this week is asking him to return. Focus on the Family and the Pennsylvania Family Institute placed the ad in four papers. It ran on Thursday in the Lancaster New Era and Lancaster Intelligencer and will run Sunday in the Harrisburg Patriot-News and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

TAKE ACTION
Please call all of Sen. Casey's offices and ask him to return to his pro-life roots.

Parents Upset Over Homosexual 'Children's Book', Library Refuses to Budge. The book, King & King, has been the subject of a federal lawsuit and other controversy across the country. Now, in the Allentown area, several parents who had the misfortune to read this to their children unknowingly until reaching the end when the two princes "marry" have petitioned to remove the book from their public library. The library and the township have both refused to remove the book claiming that the burden is on the parents for content, not the library.

Support Grandparent's Foster Care Rights, Call or Email Your State Senator Today! Pennsylvania Family Council supports HB 1548, a good and important bipartisan pro-family bill by Rep. Kortz and Rep. Vulakovich and 50 co-sponsors. The bill is actually based on our model legislation in our Pennsylvania Policy Proposals booklet. Children who are moved out of a dangerous situation after being adjudicated "dependent" are routinely moved into foster care or into institutional care. However, sometimes the best candidates for caring for "dependent" children are overlooked: their own grandparents. House Bill 1548 simply provides a mechanism for grandparents to be evaluated for placement of their "dependent" grandchildren and gives them the ability to be represented in court when the determination is made.
Take Action by contacting your state senator and asking them to vote YES on HB 1548. Use our Citizen Action Center.

Open Records Bill Passes Senate, Heads to House. The State Senate passed the open records bill on Wednesday with a vote of 48-1, the bill will now head to the House. One of the key changes the bill brings to current law is a new "presumption" that records of state agencies or local government bodies are public unless protected by a specific exception or other privilege. The burden to prove exceptions is on the government.

Two PA Representatives Call for Comprehensive Review of Slots Law In Light of Possible Corruption. Pennsylvania Family Institute said before the slots law was passed, in the dead of night, that the gambling system would be rife with corruption since it is an establishment based on greed. Now two state representatives are calling for a review of the law because of shadowy happenings within the awarding of slots licenses.
