JOHNSTOWN, PA – October 16, 2007 – Chris Voccio, publisher of the
Johnstown, PA, Tribune-Democrat until today, announced he is starting a
conservative monthly newspaper for Pennsylvania. It will be called The
Pennsylvania Republican (www.pennrepublican.com) and is independent of
the Republican Party. It will launch in December and be headquartered in
Johnstown.
Voccio announced his resignation from The Tribune-Democrat in
September, saying only that he was starting a new venture. He remained
quiet about his plans until today's announcement.
"There are so many conservative groups in Pennsylvania, each of them
trying to foster a Commonwealth with more economic freedom and sound
conservative ideals," Voccio said. "The Pennsylvania Republican will be
their champion, promoting the ideas of limited government, lower taxes,
less government regulation, and the general idea of liberty."
Content will come from various sources, and will include commentary,
analysis, and articles of interest to conservatives.
Voccio, who moved to Pennsylvania in 2004 to manage the Johnstown
newspaper, says there is a market for such a publication, citing
research by noted political observer Terry Madonna of Franklin & Marshall College showing 32% of Pennsylvanian's identify themselves as conservative.
Before moving to Pennsylvania in 2004, Voccio was publisher of a daily
newspaper in Greenville, TX. Both papers are owned by Community
Newspaper Holdings, Inc. (CNHI), of Birmingham, AL. Prior to that he
held various positions at newspapers in Terre Haute, IN, Louisville, KY,
Fort Worth, TX, Daytona Beach, FL, and Providence, RI.
The Web address for the publication is www.pennrepublican.com
