Guest Post: Getting Millennials Involved

Every political pundit laments youth disengagement from the political process. Youth voter turnout dropped to 41.2% in the 2012 election. Only 19% of citizens between the ages of 18 and 29 follow politics "most of the time," while 61% of this same demographic believe that America’s political leaders have failed them.

Turning Point USA is changing those statistics.
Founded in 2012, Turning Point USA has grown into one of the most influential and impactful grassroots organizations in the conservative movement. Turning Point USA has 17 full-time field staff – myself included -deployed throughout the nation, recruiting and registering students on college campuses every single day.

We know that there are high school and college students who believe in free markets, limited government, and fiscal responsibility, and it falls on us to identify, empower, and organize these students; the task cannot be shirked or delayed any longer. Turning Point USA is constantly creating and implementing new methods to engage students.

In no way do we dilute or dumb-down our message: We present our beliefs and values boldly and proudly, but in a way that encourages conversation and discussion. Rather than intimidating or alienating students, we use pop-culture references, person-to-person recruitment methods, and millennial-oriented marketing to break the barrier between students and political engagement.

We believe the power of peer-to-peer contact cannot be replaced by any digital communications. Human interaction is the key to persuasion. When students see their peers standing up for a cause they truly believe in, a significant change happens. Students begin to question the liberal indoctrination they are receiving in the classroom. They become eager to learn more about the cause their friends are championing. Students will think, analyze, and search for answers. And ultimately, students are enlightened.

Turning Point USA does more than just set up chapters and campus clubs. We – our staff, our activists, our columnists, our chapter members – all work tirelessly to change the culture of college campuses. We donate our time, energy, and efforts to strengthening like-minded individuals, encouraging students to think critically about the issues at hand. We are building a network of thousands of activists across the nation.

We are Turning Point USA. We are building a network of thousands of activists across the nation. We are changing the nation, and we want you to join the cause.

If you have a child, grandchild, friend, neighbor, etc. who is in high school or college and would be interested in learning more about Turning Point USA, please have them send an email to [email protected], and I will immediately follow-up with them and help them get involved. Don’t know any millennials? No problem! We would still encourage you to visit our website, www.turningpointusa.net, and spread the word about how we are changing the country, one conversation at a time!

Citizens Alliance of Pennsylvania (CAP) is a non-profit organization founded to raise the standard of living of all Pennsylvanians by restoring limited government, economic freedom, and personal responsibility. By empowering the Commonwealth’s employers and taxpayers to break state government’s "Iron Triangle" of career politicians, bureaucrats, and Big Government lobbyists, this restoration will occur and Pennsylvania will prosper.
