Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association Applauds Governor’s Manufacturing Advisory Council Report

The Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association applauds Governor Tom Corbett, the Governor’s Manufacturing Advisory Council, and the Team Pennsylvania Foundation on the release of the document, Recommendations to Encourage Growth in Pennsylvania’s Manufacturing Sector. Today, Governor Corbett, senior cabinet officials, and manufacturing leaders convened to release the report and announce the findings and recommendations of the Council. Events in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Hanover, and Hermitage culminated the six-months of collaboration and synthesis of the Council.

In Breinigsville, PA, situated in the Lehigh Valley, Governor Corbett and Carlos M. Cardoso, President & CEO of Kennametal, Inc., spoke in favor of the recommendations. The Governor stressed the importance of training a skilled workforce, maintaining a reliable energy supply, and expanding into new markets to further develop the Commonwealth’s manufacturing sector. Emphasizing the multiplier effect that manufacturing can have on the economy, Governor Corbett stated, "Take a look at this document because this is what we will be using in the next two years to make good, family sustaining jobs." He added, "If we do this right we will have a great future for our children."

Mr. Cardoso spoke of the impact that manufacturing can have on the Commonwealth’s prosperity. He stated, "If we expand manufacturing in this state we will expand the middle class, make them wealthier, and make this a better country." Thanking the Governor for his leadership, Mr. Cardoso said, "Today shows Governor Corbett’s commitment to manufacturing in this state."

David N. Taylor, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association and Governor’s Manufacturing Advisory Council member, said, "I am honored by the opportunity to serve as a member of the council and am deeply pleased with the work product that resulted from our process. As Governor Corbett noted, the manufacturing sector is the engine that drives Pennsylvania’s economy, adding $60 billion in value every year, directly employing 575,000 Pennsylvanians, and sustaining millions of additional Pennsylvania jobs in supply chains, industrial services, and distribution networks. PMA looks forward to helping the Corbett Administration and the General Assembly implement the pro-growth recommendations in our report."
