Prominent Democrats Flee Party

On my radio program this past weekend, I talked about President Obama’s imploding 2012 campaign message, including his ongoing and misleading attacks directed at Bain Capital and Mitt Romney. I also mentioned Obama’s unfortunate (and incorrect) comments referring to World War II Nazi concentration camps in Poland as "Polish death camps," and the lousy economic numbers released this week. Instead of taking ownership for the failure of his policies to turn our economy around, President Obama blamed these poor economic numbers on Greece, former President George W. Bush, and Republicans in the U.S. House, even though there are currently more than 20 jobs bills passed by the Republican controlled House that the Democrat controlled Senate and the President have refused to consider. Meanwhile, Obama’s spending policies continue to raise the national debt at a record pace, continue to limit and even shut down U.S. energy infrastructure, and in general make America weaker (listen here).

No wonder prominent Democrats have recently spoken out against President Obama’s campaign messaging. Mayor Cory Booker of Newark New Jersey finds the attacks on Bain "nauseating." Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell called the Bain attacks "disappointing." And former President Bill Clinton contradicted Obama by saying Romney’s business career was "sterling." Other Democrats are making an even stronger statement against this administration’s policies by leaving their political party.

Artur Davis, former Democrat congressman from Alabama’s 7th district (who gave a seconding speech for Obama’s nomination at the 2008 Democrat convention, and who was once called the "Obama of Alabama") switched political parties because President Obama has not delivered on his campaign promise to "bring America together." Davis stated in an interview with Neil Cavuto on the topic of Obamacare, "I heard people in the Democratic party say, ‘oh, we know this is unpopular, we know people don’t support this, but sometimes politicians just have to do that.’ Well, the reality is our Presidents in the past felt it was important to bring us together and to try to build a consensus and reach across party lines. I didn’t see that effort." He went on to proclaim, "There is no center right in the Democratic party. There is in the Republican party, and I want to help, to be a part of that. "

Jo Ann Nardelli — a Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee person who also received national attention this week for her decision to join the Republican Party — joined me on air to talk about her decision. She described herself as an Italian Catholic and life-long pro-life Democrat who can no longer support the Obama administration’s policies. Jo Ann resigned from her elected positions within the Democratic party and is now supporting Mitt Romney for President.

Jo Ann is just one of many reasons why I am optimistic about our future as a nation. I am increasingly confident that Republicans will retake the White House in November and send more conservatives to the U.S. Senate and House. With these changes, we will then see major economic reforms, huge entrepreneurial innovation, and strong economic growth. The results will include more jobs, lower debt, and a stronger America.

Have a great week ahead!
