Quote of the Week
"But at a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized – at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do – it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds."
~ President Obama, January 12, 2011

ACLU of PA Secures A Right to Incivility. Motorists in Pennsylvania now have the "right" to swear at and give the finger to police officers and other motorists. The ACLU of Pennsylvania had sued last May on behalf of a woman who was cited after yelling a profanity at a motorcyclist who, she said, had swerved close to her. She reported the incident to a state policeman, who mailed the motorcyclist a citation but also mailed her a disorderly conduct citation for using the "a" word. As part of the settlement, our PA State Police can no longer cite anyone for disorderly conduct because of swearing or obscene gestures.

PFI Blog – Customize Your Child with Abortion. The pro-life movement has been warning people about this day for years. The day when abortion would simply become a tool to pick and choose the child of your choice. A couple in Australia aborted twin boys because they really wanted a girl. And everyone seems shocked that parents could be capable of that thinking. Really? Read more commentary on this story and add your comments to the PFI Blog!

At least seven states – Indiana, Iowa, New Hampshire, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Wyoming – are working to protect marriage in their constitutions. Look for more info on our efforts here in Pennsylvania coming soon.
US Documents to Retain ‘Mother’ and ‘Father’, But Adding ‘Parent 1’ and ‘Parent 2.’ The State Department announced they were changing birth documents for overseas births to read "Parent 1" and "Parent 2" instead of "Mother" and "Father" in a bid to be more gender-neutral. After an outcry from the Family Research Council, our sister organization in Washington, D.C. and other conservative, pro-family groups, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton changed her mind. Clinton instructed the department to change the form to now ask for the names of the child’s "mother or parent 1" and "father or parent 2."
